Where do I start!… The views…wow! Nestled in a small sleepy village at the base of Le Grand Columbier and surrounded by vineyards with clear views of the mountains and stunning sunrises, what more could we ask for?! We were a family of three adults and four children ranging from 5yrs – 15yrs. They were never bored! The pool is fantastic, clean and refreshing after a day lazing in the sun on the comfy loungers – lots of fun had by all. The pool table and ping-pong were great hits with the kids and adults alike too. Beautiful villages to explore nearby, especially Chanaz. An early morning swim in the Lac de Virieu was a little piece of heaven, even more so as we had the whole lake to ourselves! It’s definitely worth the drive up Le Grand Columbier for the spectacular views of the Alps and the Rhone Valley. A day trip to Geneva is only an hour away on the train – the old town is worth a visit. Sarah and Claude are genuinely lovely hosts and couldn’t be more helpful, even waiting for us to arrive at a ridiculous hour – I think it was after 1am! They arranged to come with us for a wine tasting evening at the neighbours, Claude Collomb, so they could translate for us. The wine is very nice, a little more special knowing it’s made from the grapes surrounding the gite! There is so much more I could write about this wonderful little corner of rural France but you’ll just have to visit to see it for yourselves!
